This item is a pretty vintage cross stitch / embroidered sampler created in 1931 by someone named Annie Mackay. It features a colourful alphabet and letters and various symbols all surrounded by a chevron border. From research into the pictures used we believe the symbolism to mean as follows:
  • Basket of Flowers - Friendship and Love
  • Cross, Heart and Anchor - Christian Symbols; Faith, Love, Hope
  • Crown - Sovereignty (Divine and Earthly)
  • Sauwastika - Good Luck, Hope, Auspiciousness
The sampler is encased in a glass covered frame (possibly original but impossible to tell), the frame measures approx. 13.5" x 15.5".
The sampler is in good colourful condition, although there has more than likely been some form of fading to the colouration of the threads over the years. The frame holds the sampler securely but the edges are a little nibbled and there is rusting to the staples holding the backboard and tears to the brown tape (see photos)
