This elegantly shaped sterling silver jug features a tall vase shape with decorative design and beaded border. It measures approx. 5.75" in height, 4" in width from lip to handle and weighs 90g. It is in rather good condition considering its age with some faint scratches to the metal surface and a couple of small dints to the side without the hallmark. I believe the base may have been attached to a shaped pedestal at some point and removal from this has caused distortion to the rim of the base (see photos)
The hallmark is for London, c.1787 and shows the makers mark of a scroll script H and B which would denote that it was made by the renowned female silversmith Hester Bateman.
